Yeah is a 2004 single by James Murphy and company and is a quintessential LCD Soundsytem dance punk jam that meanders and builds and meander and builds :).

It might be a lesser known song by the band but for me it’s right up there with their other hits.

Grey Would Be The Colour, If I Had A Heart http://newonmyplaylist.com/something-i-can-never-have-nine-inch-nails/ http://newonmyplaylist.com/something-i-can-never-have-nine-inch-nails/#comments Fri, 20 Apr 2012 08:33:01 +0000 http://newonmyplaylist.com/?p=3107 Continue reading ]]> Nine Inch Nails_Something I can never have

Trent Reznor may be the father of Industrial Rock but some of his best songs are quiet, stripped down affairs. The poignant Something I Can Never Have from Nine Inch Nails’ 1989 debut album Pretty Hate Machine is a (strong) case in point. Listen n get goosebumps :).

I still recall the taste of your tears
Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore
Scraping through my head till I don’t want to sleep anymore
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I’m down to just one thing and I’m starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never haveYou always were the one to show me how
Back then I couldn’t do the things that I can do now
This thing is slowly taking me apart
Grey would be the color if I had a heartCome on tell me
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I’m down to just one thing and I’m starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never have

In this place it seems like such a shame
Though it all looks different now, I know it’s still the same
Everywhere I look you’re all I see
Just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be

Come on tell me
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I’m down to just one thing and I’m starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never have
I just want something I can never have

Blast From The Past: Cease To Begin by Band Of Horses http://newonmyplaylist.com/cease-to-begin-band-of-horses/ http://newonmyplaylist.com/cease-to-begin-band-of-horses/#comments Fri, 16 Mar 2012 06:42:46 +0000 http://newonmyplaylist.com/?p=2959 Continue reading ]]> Band of Horses_Detlef Schrempf_Marry Song

In the mood for some CSNY harmonies infused southern rock?

Till a few weeks back I was familiar with only one song by Seattle rock band Band Of Horses, which was the ubiquitous No One’s Gonna Love You from their 2007 album Cease To Begin. I decided to dig into their back catalog starting with the said album and found it to be a great listen, chock a block with extremely melodic, well written songs.

The album is like a staple for great love songs. For me the best song on the album by far is Detlef Schrempf (nothing to do with the NBA player except well the name). I get goosebumps every time I hear the line ‘My eyes can’t look at you any other way’.. brrr :).

Other picks for me are No One’s Gonna Love You, which I believe has featured on every love songs mixtape that has ever been made after Cease To Begin came out and is yet to lose its poignancy and charm; and the beautiful Marry Song which again I gather is a regular at most weddings.

Listen to these three great songs below and if you like what you hear do yourself and pick up the album.

I’ve spent a lot of this month listening to 1998s The Three E.P.s collection by Scottish downtempo, indie pop band The Beta Band. I love the way the band craft their melodies and pace their songs on this album; how each song takes its time to build and reveal itself in all its glory. Listen to what is arguably their most famous song Dry The Rain as well as one of my favourites Inner Meet Me and if you like what you hear you’d be well advised to check out the entire album.
