If all goes well 2011 should see albums from some of the biggest names in rock. Mouthwatering releases that I personally am eagerly awaiting are:
The Foo Fighters
A follow up to their 2007 effort Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace is expected in the first half of 2011. Produced by Butch Vig (the guy who produced an album called Nevermind) this will be their ‘heaviest’ album to date if Dave Grohl is to be believed.
Talking about HEAVY here’s a sample of the Foo Fighters at their heavy best- The Pretender from their 2007 album. Be sure to check out the unobstructed video on Youtube.
Chris Martin says their new album covers themes like love, addiction, OCD, escape and working for someone you don’t like. It is also a “thinly veiled account of what happens within the group.” All I’m gonna say is that as long as it’s a departure from their last album Viva La Vida, I should be fine with it 🙂
Something from their first album Parachutes to reminiscence about in the meanwhile…

Red Hot Chili Peppers
The LA funk rock hipsters are hard at work on their tenth album with producer Rick Rubin and it is expected to be out by June 2011. The album will feature a new guitarist in place of John Frusciante who left the band (again) in 2009.
Their last album Stadium Arcadium showed hints of RHCP getting back to their more funk oriented roots and im hoping they take that forward in their new album.
(Just love this song :))
The British post punk/garage rock poster boys are one of my favorite bands in recent years. Moving away from what made them popular the Arctic Monkeys went in for a more stripped down, melodic sound in their last album Humbug with mixed results.
Their new album is expected in the second half of 2011, can’t wait to see what it sounds like though I hope it sounds something like this…
Tempted to drop metaphors on saving the best for last but I am not quite sure if they are true any longer. The big daddies (or grand daddies if you prefer) are working on their 13th studio album tentatively titled Songs of Ascent.
They remain a favorite of mine despite not having done much of note since Achtung Baby in 2000 (musically speaking ofcourse) but the thing with U2 is that their highs are really something to cherish and I for one still hope that they can come close to repeating them with their latest album.
So many great songs to choose from but for its sheer poignancy this one’s my favorite.
